It’s officially summer! This season marks a prime time for many men and women who are in pursuit of the most unique, the tastiest, and the largest. If their aspirations are fulfilled, they will impress, maybe win a prize or even set a record.
What are they pursuing? Fish!
The sport of fishing entails countless hours, financial expense, research and many conversations on the perfect time and the perfect place to catch the perfect fish. And out of these conquests will emerge an infamous fish tale or two.
It’s worth considering the contrast between avid fishermen and what Jesus meant when he called us to be “fishers of men.”
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Matthew 4:19 NIV)
Application: Do we spend as much time praying for, investing into and sharing with people who don’t know Jesus, as we do following after our own hobbies?
Call to Action: Today, pray that Jesus will reset your priorities and make you as passionate about being a fisher of men as you are about your favorite hobbies. Encourage fellow fishers of men by sharing the answers to your prayer in the comments below.
